DORCHESTER on a Sunday,  today.
In honour of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, South Walks Road.
WELCOME
TO
DORCHESTER is DORSET’S oldest town,
packed and surrounded with fascinating historical sites and history dating back to Roman and Saxon times.  Always recommended is a walk to the hill-fort of MAIDEN CASTLE, just outside on the outskirts of DORCHESTER, built as Iron Age fortified dwellings, it was ideally located and enabled the occupants to see their enemy’s some distance away, the Roman’s being one of them.
DORCHESTER over the years has gained much exposure, whether through it’s connection with
Judge Jeffreys or the much loved  Thomas Hardy and “Casterbridge”.
Today, DORCHESTER still maintains it’s roots with the countryside around it, this is reflected in some of the local produce now for sale.  SIMON’S delicatessen, is one of the local quality services which now promotes this produce.
Among Dorchester’s Tea Room’s and Cafe’s again offering local produce is, the famous and very popular “THE OLD TEA HOUSE” located in High West Street, which dates back to 1635.  For those wishing a more modern light and spacious cafe, a visit to the new Brewers Square, where “Cafe Paninis” is situated, makes also a nice change.  Nowadays, more and more tourists are enjoying this area, and are buying from our quality gift and chinaware shops, which are offering famous names and brands in porcelain, glassware and furnishings.  These quality establishments include
“BOX OF PORCELAIN, NEW CURIOSITY SHOP, CERIJAN and GIFT OF ELEGANCE”.

Nowadays, when one is talking about Dorchester, the area of POUNDBURY is also mentioned in it’s own right.  Whether you are a local or a visitor, a visit to POUNDBURY is recommended.  Among the many services to be found, is a traditional barbers set in a vibrant light modern setting, called “HARDY BARBERS” awaiting you are a young experienced team of ladies.

When visiting these establishments, don’t forget to use your SAVECARD.
