Thomas Hardy, would meet his friends in The Old Tea House which over the centuries has been many things, but only a tea room since 1902 . Current owners recently found a copy of an old abbot’s bible with a 15th century cover over a 12th century manuscript, lodged up the main chimney, while refurbishment was being carried out, these items can now be seen at the Dorchester county museum. Today the owners take pride in using local produce as often as they can. All of the cakes and scones are baked fresh each day on the premises. Open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunches and afternoon teas.
Those of you that may be interested, this building is also a favourite for the paranormal investigators who have visited it from around the world, as it is said to be one of the most haunted places in England.

THE NEW STAR INN, building is on a site which is believed to be the site of a previous inn dating back over 150 years. If this is so then over the years many pints and many stories relating to the Navy and it’s famous Portland stone makes this location very much a part of the local history, today it enjoys and offers a warm welcome to the tourist and new people who are moving into the area.
