The Duchy of Cornwall has owned land in Dorchester since 1342. In 1987 the Prince of Wales began his Poundbury scheme creating his image of a model village, using traditional architecture, detailed planning and design has gone into this unique village west of Dorchester.
EVERYONE living in west Dorset who are familiar with POUNDBURY, or anyone who has been in the area recently, would agree, on how POUNDBURY has grown over the past few years. Some may still wish to call it a village, others may describe it as a flourishing new town, it has still maintained the sense of community.
